Renewed Strength
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:29-31
I was thinking about the above verses in Isaiah, ‘He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak, even youths grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.’
How does our Father God give us this strength? How do we soar on wings like eagles? How do we keep both wings healthy so we can soar very high?
Then I remembered a preacher years ago sharing a picture of two birds, one with a broken wing that couldn’t fly very far, if at all, and the healthy bird with two wings soaring high. Intrigued by this picture, I listened. He said, if you just come to church on Sunday when you feel like it, and don’t get involved in anything else the church has to offer- you’re trying to fly with only one wing. If you just come to a life group/midweek meeting and don’t come on Sundays, you also are just trying to fly with one wing. You won’t get very far. In fact, you might not get anywhere!
Then he explained, ‘On a Sunday, you get to hear, see and feel the greatness of God as you worship in a large meeting and hear the word of God. In a life group, you get to know and get to be prayed for and pray with others and much more! You get to be part of God’s family. I have never forgotten that picture and it has inspired me to keep being part of God’s family week in- week out- through many decades.
As we regularly fellowship with each other on Sundays and midweek, together, we get to soar on wings like eagles and be built together as it says in Ephesians 2:22:
‘And in Him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His spirit.’
Father, let us throw off everything that hinders us and let us run with perseverance the race that is marked out for us together. Let us soar on wings like eagles, run and not grow weary, walk and not faint. Amen!
